New report confirms next steps for Brendan Gallagher in trade saga with Montreal

Tonight, a new report has confirmed that the Montreal Canadiens are going to allow Brendan Gallagher to seek a trade to a new home this summer.
The Stanley Cup Playoffs were highly successful for the Montreal Canadiens as they shocked the league making a run to the Eastern Conference Finals.
With the success on the ice also came controversy off of it as veteran leader Brendan Gallagher was benched for much of the playoffs forced to watch from the press box.
After the Canadiens heartbreaking loss in the conference finals, Gallagher spoke to the media and was filled with emotion as he admitted his time in Montreal was coming to an end.
Since this interview, fans and media have wondered how the process will play out as Gallagher has one more year on his deal and would have to be traded.
Now, a report from Darren Dreger has confirmed that Gallagher will have control over the process.

According to Dreger, the Canadiens will allow Gallagher to speak with teams and determine where he would like to be traded to.
I believe that [agent] Gerry Johansson, if he doesn't have it already, ultimately will get permission to speak with other clubs - Darren Dreger
While this is not completely unheard of it is an unusual process for a team to allow an agent to do the negotiating for them on a trade.
It likely points to the respect the Canadiens have for Gallagher for all he has done to help the organization throughout his wonderful career.
Now, Gallagher will pick his new home with many suggesting the Vancouver Canucks could be a favorite to land him.
