Canadiens organization signs former Hurricanes forward

Forward Robert Orr, selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fifth round (136th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft, is turning pro after wrapping up his U Sports career with the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers.

The Montreal-born winger built his reputation in the QMJHL, where he racked up 78 goals and 121 assists across 233 games with the Halifax Mooseheads, Gatineau Olympiques and Acadie-Bathurst Titan.

His final junior season was his best, with 24 goals and 58 assists in just 64 outings, the kind of production that once had scouts projecting him inside the draft's top 100.

Orr carried that scoring touch into university hockey. In his sophomore season with the Panthers, he ranked among the AUS conference's top point producers, including a three-goal performance against Université de Moncton that included a shorthanded tally.

Teammates and coaches credited his relaxed, pressure-free mindset for unlocking his best hockey yet.

For a Lions club built on speed and offensive depth under the Canadiens organization, Orr brings a pro-ready shot and a track record of elevating his game at every level.

His transition speed and finishing ability should translate well against ECHL competition, giving Trois-Rivières another scoring option as they defend their Kelly Cup pedigree heading into the 2026-27 season.

Whether or not Orr can work his way up the ranks into the AHL and perhaps into the NHL remains to be seen. If one thing is for certain, he has the drive to make it happen.
