Bill Guerin has agreed to a multi-year extension as Wild GM after six playoff berths, a historic series win and a GM of the Year season.
The Minnesota Wild are making sure their architect sticks around.
Bill Guerin has agreed to a multi-year contract extension as the team's general manager, according to a report from Emily Kaplan.
The move comes as no surprise to anyone who has watched what Guerin has built in St. Paul since taking the job in the summer of 2019, turning a franchise that had missed the playoffs into a perennial contender.
Guerin walked into a rebuild and turned it into one of the more respected front offices in the league.
Since he took over, the Wild have reached the playoffs six times, a run of sustained success that not every original six team, let alone an expansion club, can claim.
Last season stood out above the rest.
Minnesota finally won a playoff series again, snapping an 11 year drought that had frustrated fans since 2015.
A front office built on bold moves
Guerin has never been shy about shaking things up when the roster needed it.
The trade for Quinn Hughes reshaped the Wild's blue line overnight and stands as one of the signature moves of his tenure.
He has also navigated a notoriously difficult salary cap situation, with old buyouts still on the books, yet somehow kept the roster competitive year after year.
That mix of aggressive roster building and patient asset management is exactly why the league recognized him this year.
Guerin was named the NHL's General Manager of the Year for the 2025-26 season, a fitting cap to a stretch where the Wild finally broke through on the ice.
What comes next for the Wild
With Guerin locked in long term, Minnesota can keep chasing bigger goals without a front office in flux.
The next order of business is finishing a new deal with Hughes himself, who enters this season in the final year of his current contract.
Given Guerin's track record over the last seven years, fans in Minnesota have every reason to feel good about where this franchise is headed.
