Bill Guerin addressed how Cale Makar's record extension might shape Quinn Hughes talks, and Devils fans are already dreaming of a family reunion.

Cale Makar's eight year, $163.2 million extension with the Colorado Avalanche reset the market for elite defensemen this week, and it did not take long for people to wonder what it means for Quinn Hughes and the Minnesota Wild.
Hughes is heading into a contract year of his own, and comparisons were inevitable given both are viewed among the best blueliners in the league.
Wild general manager Bill Guerin was asked directly about the connection on Skor North Radio, and he made clear he is not treating Makar's number as a template.
Guerin explained that while there is now a bar set by what Makar signed for in Colorado, Hughes operates differently.

Guerin says Hughes is his own case

He described Hughes as his own person with his own priorities, adding that nobody truly knows what will matter most when a new deal eventually gets done.
"There's a bar with Cale Makar signing that contract in Colorado, but Quinn might be after different things. he's a different guy. he has a different personality and has different things in his life that are important to him. who knows what he's gonna want in the end?"

That kind of uncertainty is exactly what has New Jersey fans buzzing.
Quinn's brothers, Jack and Luke, are already core pieces of the Devils roster, and any hint that Quinn's future is unsettled gets the rumor mill going.

Devils fans sense an opening

Social media lit up shortly after Guerin's comments circulated, with Devils supporters openly hoping the door is cracked for all three brothers to eventually suit up together.
Nothing suggests a move is imminent, and Guerin's tone suggested patience rather than panic.
Still, with the cap climbing and stars resetting the market all summer, Quinn Hughes remains one of the most closely watched names in hockey heading into training camp, and the New Jersey speculation is not going away anytime soon.
