The Los Angeles Kings and forward Adrian Kempe have announced that they have come to an agreement on a new eight year extension.
Los Angeles Kings forward Adrian Kempe had the chance to become one of the more coveted free agents on the market, but GM Ken Holland has now taken care of that to make sure it doesn't happen.
The Kings announced that Kempe has been signed to a
new contract extension for eight years and an AAV (average annual value) of $10.625 million.
Adrian Kempe and LA have agreed on an 8 year extension at an AAV of $10.625M
Holland acted quickly to sign him to an eight year deal, as the ability for teams to sign players to contracts of eight years or longer expires on June 30.
In September, Kempe
talked about how much he likes playing in Los Angeles for the Kings and his desire to sign a long term deal.
For sure, I love it here. My family loves it here. I always have. I appreciate the organization and everything they've done for me. The fans. You name it. This is where I want to play. I don't want to go anywhere else. But it's probably my last contract in my career here. If I sign an eight- or seven-year deal, I'll be 37 or 38 when the deal's done. It's an important deal for me, for my family, for my future.
So far this year for the Kings, Kempe has 19 points (6G, 13A) in 19 games played.
Adrian Kempe Is Now A Kings Forward For The Long Haul
Kempe was taken with the 29th overall pick by the Kings in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, which was the most recent year they won the Stanley Cup.
He continued playing with Modo Hockey in his native Sweden until he made the jump to North America to play in the Kings' AHL system.
He made his NHL debut in 2016-17, and he's been a regular in the Kings lineup since 2017-18.
Kempe has 420 points (200G, 220A) in 649 career NHL games.
