Brad Marchand left the Panthers' win over the Kings with an apparent left knee injury, and an early read on X points to a possible MCL problem.
Brad Marchand may be facing another long stretch on the sidelines.
The Florida Panthers winger went down late in the second period of Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings and was helped off the ice without putting any weight on his left leg.
He did not return.
Kings defenseman Brandt Clarke caught him with a high stick while he drove to the net, and Marchand crashed into the post in an awkward spot.
He grabbed his left knee right away.
Brady Tkachuk and Niko Mikkola helped him off, and Clarke picked up a double minor.
What an early read says about the injury
Sports doctor Harjas Grewal shared a take on X that has fans paying attention.
His main concern is an MCL injury, though he said the way Marchand got hurt could also cause a high ankle sprain.
He said the time off depends on severity, though a grade 2 often means four to six weeks, and he rated an ACL tear as unlikely.
None of that is official. Panthers coach Paul Maurice had no update after the game.
Marchand is expected to be examined Thursday once the team gets back to South Florida.
Why the timing hurts Florida
This was only Marchand's second game back since March.
The 38-year-old had surgery in August and scored a game-tying goal in Sunday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks.
Florida is already without captain Aleksander Barkov, who is expected to miss six to eight weeks with a lower-body injury.
The Panthers sit at 2-0-2, but losing a second key forward this early would hurt.
Everyone will be watching Thursday's update closely.
