Brandon Bussi is great depth for the Florida Panthers, but ahead of the new season, he's officially been claimed on waivers by a Conference Rival.
NHL waivers have been ongoing for the past few weeks at a rapid rate, and while we've not seen too many claims thus far, we've now seen the Florida Panthers lose a key depth piece to a conference rival.
Earlier this season, the Panthers signed
talented goaltender Brandon Bussi to a one-year, two way deal to be the third man on the depth chart, but now, they've already lost him after already placing him on waivers for purpose of re-assignment to the AHL.
Carolina Hurricanes Claim Former Bruins Goaltender
After being placed on waivers on Saturday, NHL Insider Frank Seravalli confirmed on Sunday that he has been claimed by the Hurricanes, a team that was in desperate need of goaltender depth this off-season.
Over the past three seasons, Bussi has been with the AHL's Providence Bruins, and while he's yet to get into an NHL game, he's shown plenty of promise, posting a sub-2.80 GAA in each of those three years.
With
Frederik Andersen and Pytor Kochetkov already on the roster, the team don't need more NHL help, but given how injury prone the former has been, getting a solid depth piece like Bussi is a fantastic piece of business.
At 27-years of age, it's unclear what Bussi's ceiling is as a goaltender, but clearly he remains an incredibly talented player, and now, he'll look to finally make his NHL dreams come true as he gets an opportunity with the Hurricanes ahead of a highly anticipated 2025/26 campaign.
