Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk, who played through numerous injuries during the 2025 postseason, is still deciding on surgery per a newly released report from ESPN.
The Florida Panthers continue to live it up, having won their 2nd straight Stanley Cup and did so once again over the Edmonton Oilers, the 1st rematch in the SCF since the 2008 and 2009 Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins.
Panthers forward and assistant captain Matthew Tkachuk, who was once again right in the middle of all the action, revealed after the deciding Game 6 in June that he
played through numerous injuries during the postseason.
He announced that not only did he play through a sports hernia, but that he had torn his adductor literally off the bone.
During a recent interview with ESPN, Tkachuk revealed that he's
still deciding on surgery but that he would miss the 1st several months of the year if he goes that route.
"I'm still hoping to hit the ice as soon as possible....If I do get the surgery, it'll definitely be the first two or maybe three months if that's the case. But it's still undecided at this point."
Tkachuk had 57 points (22G, 35A) in 52 games before getting hurt playing for the American squad at the 4 Nations Faceoff; he missed the rest of the regular season before coming back for the playoffs.
Tkachuk's Potential Absence Could Shake Up the Panthers' Early Season Momentum
Without Tkachuk, the Panthers will have a considerable hole in their lineup.
I thought that the way the money was tied up, you didn't know it was going to be possible, and somehow it was. Everybody was taken care of so well and Bill did a great job of making sure it could happen. I think they all got rewarded very well, and I'm just so excited to have a chance to hopefully run it back with them this year.
The Panthers open their 2nd straight Stanley Cup defense on October 7 against the Chicago Blackhawks.
