Brady and Matthew Tkachuk under fire for recent Leo Carlsson comments

On the latest Wingmen podcast, Brady shrugged at the richest AAV in league history and said $18 million might end up an underpay.

Matthew agreed, adding that Carlsson is "worth like eight first-rounders."

Fair enough - Carlsson is elite, and the cap is climbing. But framing this as two stars admiring a peer misses the timing.

Brady becomes extension-eligible in roughly twelve months. Every dollar he can push into the center market now becomes his own comparable later.

That is the quiet self-interest here.

When the highest-paid player in the sport is called underpaid by the guy negotiating next, that is a floor being set, not a compliment being paid.

A second narrative claims that no one cares about the two brothers and added fuel to the mix.

That reads good but ignores the paper trail. The podcast friction that actually mattered happened in Ottawa, where Elliotte Friedman and Bruce Garrioch reported Wingmen wore on Brady's teammates before his June trade.

In Florida, the opposite is true.

Matthew has said GM Bill Zito pitched the podcast idea years ago.

The organization that supposedly hates the noise helped create it.

Carlsson reset the ceiling. Macklin Celebrini and Connor Bedard are next, and both could clear $18 million when eligible.

Brady sits in that same wave, now on a contender with cap questions of his own. His underpay line is less a hot take on Anaheim than a preview of the raise he intends to command in Sunrise.

The story isn't that two brothers like a big contract. It's that one of them just publicly set the price of his own.
