Top insider shuts down rumours linking Oilers to multiple expensive goalies

Once again, the Edmonton Oilers just are not getting what they need out of goaltenders Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard.

The Oilers, even though they got a little bit of revenge against the Florida Panthers with a 6-3 win over the weekend in Florida, still have been nothing but inconsistent this year.

They're in sixth place in the Pacific Division with a 10-9-5 record and could be in danger of missing the postseason if they can't get it together.

Even though the Oilers have been rumoured to be targeting goaltending help, NHL analyst David Pagnotta has shut down the thought of them acquiring names like Elvis Merzlikins from the Columbus Blue Jackets, Juuse Saros from the Nashville Predators and Jordan Binnington from the St. Louis Blues because of salary cap issues.

So far this year, Skinner has a .895 SV% while Pickard has an even worse mark of a .851 SV%.

But Pagnotta clarified later was that the Oilers could wait until the summer to make a badly needed change to their goaltending, saying they could potentially get "very aggressive".

Both Skinner and Pickard are set to be UFA's in the summer, and there's no indication about extensions for either of them yet.
