When you look at Connor McDavid, this is 8, 9, possibly 10 seasons, it's been long enough. This team hasn't been good enough around him. For him to have been able to perform the way that he has over the tenure of his career, including in the playoffs - we saw the performance that he put on last year in the STnaley Cup Final. It's amazing, but hockey is a team sport. You cannot win by yourself.
For me, look at Florida. They traded for
Sam Reinhart, traded for Sam Bennett, traded for
Matthew Tkachuk, traded for
Seth Jones at the Deadline, traded for Brad Marchand at the Deadline, picked up Forsling off waivers. That's all about GMs, presidents, and front offices. They managed to put some great players and build that culture. Edmonton's culture isn't even close.
For Edmonton, Connor McDavid has a question to ask himself - 'Is this where my future lies or not?' He has every right to look at all of his options over the next year.
