Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch 'wants more' out of underperforming forward Trent Frederic
Kris Knoblauch and the Oilers have not been at their best early in 2025/26, and now the coach has called out the underperforming Trent Frederic for his play.
The Edmonton Oilers entered the 2025/26 campaign with very high hopes, and while their big stars have once again been at their very best, the depth around them have struggled mightily.
One of those under performers has been Trent Frederic, whom the Oilers acquired at the 2025 trade deadline, as he has tallied just 1 goal and a -5 differential across 16 games this season.
Kris Knoblauch Needs More Out Of Trent Frederic
Those struggles aren't unique to Frederic, as the Oilers offense beyond their top line has struggled immensely, and now, Head Coach Kris Knoblauch has called out the veteran forward, stating that he knows he needs to be better, and that the team believe he will be.
We would like more out of Trent. He isn't happy with how he is playing. We'd like more offence but also more tenacity and physicality. He is not moving his feet as well as he can. There are a lot of guys on the team who can play better and he is one of them.
Clearly, frustration is taking over in Edmonton after the team fell 9-1 on Saturday night against a red-hot Colorado Avalanche team, and while the Oilers have the depth to be a very good team, they're simply just not getting the best out of that depth at the moment.
Only time will tell if this wakeup call from Knoblauch actually helps Frederic turn things around, but after signing him to a long-term deal this off-season, it's safe to say that the Oilers have been highly disappointed in the 27-year old to this point in time.
