The Edmonton Oilers fell just one game short of the Stanley Cup in 2024, and after the loss, superstar Leon Draisaitl fought back tears in an intriguing interview.
While they came up short in the Stanley Cup Finals, the Edmonton Oilers captivated the hockey world with their run in 2024, and will no doubt be chasing the same goal next season with their two superstars leading the way. Now, after a heartbreaking Game 7 loss, Leon Draisaitl has given an interview where he fights back tears discussing just how much this team means to his captain Connor McDavid.
«He's the greatest player to ever play in my books. So many things that a lot of people don't see that he does. He single handedly turned our franchise around.»
«Just love, love sharing the ice with him. He's just a really, really special person.»
This shows the genuine love and passion in the Oilers locker room, and after making it to the final step without achieving their dreams, Draisaitl has commented on just how much his captain wants to lift the Cup.
«It speaks to how amazing of a hockey player he is, but there's no player in the world that wants to win a Stanley Cup more than him. (He) does everything right every single day just to win it one day. It's really hard, especially him (McDavid) being sad.»
With their two stars leading the way, the Oilers have the chance to be back again in 2025, but with Draisaitl's looming free agency next summer and McDavid's the year after that, if they can't reach their goal, we could see some major changes with this organization.
