Former Edmonton Oilers goalie Mikko Koskinen announces his retirement from professional hockey
This evening a new report has come out confirming that former NHL goalie for the Edmonton Oilers Mikko Koskinen is announcing his retirement from pro hockey.
The Edmonton Oilers have struggled to find consistent goaltending over the past several years. One of the best goalies during his peak with the Oilers was Mikko Koskinen. Today news has come out that at age 36 Mikko Koskinen is retiring from hockey. He will now pursue a new career path as an agent.
At the time of his retirement, Mikko Koskinen was playing in Switzerland with HC Lugano. In his last season in Switzerland, Mikko Koskinen had a 2.78 goals-against average.
His career began with the New York Islanders after being drafted by them in the 2nd round of the 2009 NHL Draft. He would go on to play 4 games with the Islanders before heading back to Europe. Mikko Koskinen would then return to the NHL in 2018-19 and spend 4 seasons as the starter with the Edmonton Oilers. At his best, Mikko Koskinen had a 2.75 goals-against average and a 0.917 save percentage.
