ESPN disregards McDavid and Crosby's skill level: huge backlash erupts
The yearly top 100 Athlete list was released by ESPN and fans of the Oilers and Penguins feel completely insulted and angered.
ESPN has once again proved to the world that they are not the biggest hockey fans, as they have only listed three NHL players in their entire list of top 100 athletes. In 22nd place, Sidney Crosby appeared, followed by Alex Ovechkin at 54, and now for the greatest insult of all, Connor McDavid, coming in two spots ahead of last place, in at 98.
Today, ESPN published their ranking of the top 100 professional athletes of the 21st century, voted on by ESPN «experts.»
3 hockey players made it into the top 100:
22nd - Sidney Crosby
54th - Alex Ovechkin
98th - Connor McDavid
Oilers fans were quick to take to social media to voice their displeasure after once again being disrespected by ESPN for what seems to be a yearly event. Fans were quick to call out ESPN, saying they know absolutely nothing with anything hockey-related.
McDavid at 98 is such a joke... list can't be taken serious #ESPN who made it
@stephenasmith
McDavid at No. 98 is a joke. You know the athleticism you need to both skate at a world-class level AND have the hand-high coordination and smarts to make the plays he does?
Hockey players are incredible athletes that other sports can't match.
ESPN ranking McDavid 98th on the «top 100 athletes since 2000» list is a perfect encapsulation of how terrible espn is and why they should have never been allowed to broadcast NHL games
American Michael Phelps was voted #1 athlete of the year by the American company ESPN. What else is new, right Oilers fans?
