Jake Walman was a solid pickup for the Oilers at the deadline, and now The Hockey Writers have revealed that he's on the verge of signing an 8-year deal.
The Edmonton Oilers have been one of the NHL's busiest teams this off-season, and with the team looking to get back to the Stanley Cup Finals for a third straight season, they've made some intriguing changes.
However, that's not the only extension that the Oilers have been eyeing up, as reports have now come out about one of the team's biggest mid-season acquisitions from 2024/25.
Jake Walman May Follow in Trent Frederic's Footsteps and Sign for 8 Years
That comes from Bob Stauffer, who has continued speculation that Walman could sign the long-term deal for a similar reason to Trent Frederic, in order to keep the overall AAV down but give him long-term security with a Stanley Cup contender.
In 15 regular season games with the Oilers, Walman tallied 1 goal and 8 points before putting up 2 goals and 10 points in 22 post-season games, showing why he can be a very valuable piece for the Oilers blue line moving forward.
Only time will tell if Walman gets the long-term deal that he's seeking, but given the lack of stars on the Oilers blue line, it makes sense if they can lock in a young blue liner for years to come as they continue their pursuit of a Stanley Cup.
