Jonathan Toews has been solid for the Winnipeg Jets this season, but with the team struggling, Jeff Marek has suggested the Oilers should target him.
The Edmonton Oilers haven't been at their best for much of the 2025/26 season, but still they sit in second place in the Pacific Division, with the team once again finding their momentum ahead of a potential Stanley Cup run.
However, this is still a team with major weaknesses, and with the trade deadline looming following the Olympic break, there's some definite trade targets out there for them.
Jeff Marek hints at major Oilers trade
Now, on the latest edition of OilersNation Everyday, NHL reporter Jeff Marek has floated out an idea for General Manager Stan Bowman and the Oilers, suggesting they should pursue Jonathan Toews as the Winnipeg Jets sit in the bottom-five in league standings.
This season, Toews made his comeback after two seasons away from the league, signing with his hometown Winnipeg Jets in the process, but overall the team has struggled in a big way.
While Toews hasn't recaptured his early career form, he has posted 7 goals and 18 points in 49 games played, and given his experience in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and his exceptional leadership, it's easy to see why he'd be a fit as the 3C in Edmonton.
As of right now, it's unclear if the Jets are motivated to move Toews, but given how their Stanley Cup Playoff hopes are fading the more the season rolls on, if that continues, he should draw interest, with the Oilers making sense as a buy-low team for the former Blackhawks captain.
