Kris Knoblauch took over the Oilers when their season was in turmoil, and now, 18 months later, the team have handed their Head Coach an extension.
For months now, there's been nothing but speculation, chatter and cryptic comments coming from the Edmonton Oilers around superstar
Connor McDavid and his future with the team.
To this point, there's been very little movement on an extension, but on Friday, the Oilers proved they can get some business done, as the organization officially announced a massive long-term deal, but not to their superstar forward and captain.
Kris Knoblauch Signs Multi-Year Extension to Stay as Oilers Head Coach
After taking over the team during the 2023/24 season and leading the team to back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals appearances, the team have rewarded Kris Knoblauch with a
multi-year extension.
Following that report, the Oilers official social media confirmed his new deal runs until the end of the 2028/29 campaign, proving just how much the team value Knoblauch and what he brings to the table.
Since taking over from Jay Woodcroft, Knoblauch has led the Oilers to a 94-47-10 record, while also appearing in two straight Stanley Cup Finals, and while they're yet to take that final leap, the team clearly believe Knoblauch is the coach to lead them there.
Ultimately, the team took a chance on a very unproven coach when they announced him as the replacement for Woodcroft, but he's proven to be a very capable coach and the one that this team sorely needed, and with a long-term extension in place, this shows the faith that the organization have in him to finally lead them to a Stanley Cup in the coming years.
