To kick of NHL trade deadline week, the Edmonton Oilers made a three-team deal with the Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings, ultimately landing forward Trent Frederic in the deal for the return of a second and fourth round draft pick.
However, it appears GM Stan Bowman may not be finished after all, as recent speculation has revealed that Boston's Morgan Geekie and Charlie Coyle are both names firmly on the Oilers radar with just over 24 hours until the 2025 trade deadline.
The report comes from NBC Options, who list both players as genuine targets for the Oilers, and given that they'd provide youth and depth to their wings, giving the team the likely option to move on from Evander Kane, it would be a fantastic deal for the Oilers.
However, it has proven thus far to be a sellers market at the deadline, with some ridiculous prices being paid, so if Edmonton would like to go all in with their pursuit of a Stanley Cup, they would need to part with plenty of assets.
Given their defensive struggles as of late, the Oilers may however be best served in chasing an upgrade on their blue line, but with the team clearly surveying the league to find upgrades ahead of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, this is certainly a team to keep a close eye on.
Only time will tell whether or not that's with Coyle and Geekie or if the Oilers pivot and look elsewhere, but for now, there's no reason to believe that Edmonton should be anything but aggressive buyers at the trade deadline.
