Details of Failed Edmonton Oilers Goalie Trade Revealed by Frank Seravalli

Over the weekend, we saw a shock goaltending trade in the NHL, with the Pittsburgh Penguins acquiring Arturs Silovs from the Vancouver Canucks just weeks after he won the Calder Cup Playoffs MVP by leading the Abbotsford Canucks to their first Championship.

It's a solid deal for the Penguins as they land a young, NHL ready goaltender that could push starter Tristan Jarry in the upcoming season, but it now appears as though they weren't the only team pushing for the 24-year old.

According to Insider Frank Seravalli, the Edmonton Oilers were 'in the mix' for the young goaltender, but being a division rival of the Vancouver Canucks, it's not surprising that they would have preferred to trade him to the Eastern Conference.

It's no surprise that the Oilers were in the mix for Silovs, as there has been plenty of talk about the team bringing in a goaltender to push Stuart Skinner for the starting role, with no young goalie fitting that role more than Silovs, who has shown promise in his little NHL action thus far.

In 19 NHL games for Vancouver, Silovs has posted a solid 3.13 GAA, and now he'll push for the starters role in Pittsburgh after Tristan Jarry struggled for much of the 2024/25 campaign, but with the Oilers missing out on another goaltending trade, they'll be looking for ways to fix their goaltending woes from within as they look to finally take the last step towards a Stanley Cup.
