Behind the Scenes: Oilers CEO Jeff Jackson Shares Inside Scoop on Connor McDavid Extension

The immediate future of the Edmonton Oilers is looking very bright, and with the team getting younger over the off-season as they chase the elusive Stanley Cup, the future beyond that is bright too, but it all hinges on captain Connor McDavid.

For much of the off-season, it has appeared as though McDavid would sign a short-term extension with the team this summer, and now, Oilers CEO Jeff Jackson has given the inside scoop on negotiations.

When asked about how long negotiations will be with Connor McDavid, Jackson, who has a close personal relationship with McDavid was supremely confident that it wouldn't take too long.

Jackson was McDavid's agent before taking a role in the Oilers front office, and given that relationship, he knows what the player wants, and with a Stanley Cup right in the Oilers grasp, there appears to be no reason why the long-time captain would want to be elsewhere.

Ultimately though, all signs point to McDavid and the Oilers getting a deal done after Team Canada's Olympic Camp that's set to take place ahead of NHL training camp, and with Jackson in charge of negotiations, there's no reason why this won't get done in a similar timeframe to Leon Draisaitl a year ago.
