The injury occurred when Raymond and Oilers defenseman
Brett Kulak chased a loose puck down near the boards. As they tangled, Raymond spun awkwardly and crashed into the boards at an uncomfortable angle. The fall looked painful, and when Raymond stayed on the ice, sitting for several moments before trying to get up, it was apparent something was amiss.
The more serious concern, however, was a result of what Raymond did after that: He favored his right arm, then took the glove off to take a look at his hand in one of those moments that truly made many hearts sink. His body language showed he was in considerable pain, though the exact nature of the injury was still unclear at that point. Fans held their breath, uncertain about the severity of what they'd just witnessed.
Not all was bad news, however. The positive note in the matter was that, after having been off the ice for quite some time, Lucas Raymond was able to return to the bench. His overall condition is still undetermined, but he was back with his team, and that helped the Red Wings, along with their concerned fans, breathe a sigh of relief.
