Dylan Larkin's trade market just got smaller, with the Florida Panthers reportedly sitting out the Red Wings center sweepstakes.

The Dylan Larkin trade market just lost one of its original names.
Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reported that the Panthers are loaded at center and haven't ever really been in this race, at least as far as he can tell.
Pierre LeBrun: Re Dylan Larkin: "The Panthers are...loaded at center and haven't ever really been in this as far as I can tell."

NHLRR: Florida were one of the initial 3 teams Larkin gave to the Red Wings in June"
That lands differently when you remember where this started.
Florida was one of the first three teams Larkin gave the Red Wings back in June, alongside the Minnesota Wild and the Vegas Golden Knights.

Why Florida is out

LeBrun said the Panthers haven't been making offers to Detroit and appear to be out of the sweepstakes entirely.
For a team that looked like a natural fit on paper, that is a real reality check for the Red Wings.
It also shrinks the pool Detroit can work with.
Larkin holds a full no-trade clause, so the Red Wings can only deal him where he is willing to go.

What happens next for Larkin

The situation is already messy.
Larkin, 30, was suspended without pay on October 29 after telling the Red Wings he would no longer play for them while he waits on a deal.
His list has since grown to 10 teams, but Elliotte Friedman said over the weekend it could change soon, with the Panthers and Golden Knights expected to come off.
That would leave the Wild as the name to watch.
Minnesota has reportedly sent offers to Detroit, though salary cap room has been an obstacle.
Larkin is signed through the 2030-31 season at $8.7 million per year, so whoever lands him takes on a long commitment.
Nothing looks imminent, and Detroit has said it won't rush.
But one suitor is gone, and the Red Wings need another to step up.
