The Dylan Larkin saga in Detroit just took a major turn. Helene St. James of The Detroit Free Press reports that Larkin's trade list now includes ten teams, up from the original three.
That gives interim general manager Shawn Horcoff far more room to negotiate.
The 10 Teams on Larkin's List
Here is the full list St. James reported: the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars, Washington Capitals, Carolina Hurricanes, Utah Mammoth, Tampa Bay Lightning, New Jersey Devils and Colorado Avalanche.
The Panthers, Wild and Golden Knights were the original three destinations Larkin named after requesting a trade following the 2025-26 season.
Nearly every club on the list is a contender, which fits what Larkin wants: a chance to win now.
It also explains why Detroit has not found a match yet. Contenders rarely want to gut their rosters, and the Red Wings continue to ask for “value-now” players rather than a package of prospects and draft picks.
Why Montreal Is Missing
One notable absence is the Montreal Canadiens, even after fans chanted “we want Larkin!” during a recent Red Wings visit. For now, the Habs are not an approved destination.
Detroit's front office has been in flux since Steve Yzerman was removed on July 15, which stalled early talks. Horcoff was elevated to interim GM in September and seemingly has the authority to complete a Larkin trade.
With seven more partners than before, the odds of movement have improved, but the price tag remains steep.
Larkin, 30, carries an $8.7 million cap hit through 2030-31, which complicates matters for cap-strapped clubs like Florida. He has one goal and three points in six games this season after missing training camp with an upper-body injury.
Expect Minnesota and Washington to stay near the top of the chase, since both have the assets to match Detroit's demands.
Whether any of these 10 clubs is willing to pay Detroit's price will decide how long this saga drags on. Red Wings fans, and Larkin himself, are waiting for an answer.
