Tyler Seguin followed the Chicago Blackhawks on Instagram, and with his Dallas Stars contract expiring after this season, fans are asking if a move is coming.
Tyler Seguin hit follow on the Chicago Blackhawks' official Instagram account, and it didn't take long for the hockey world to notice. It's a tiny click, but it's the kind of tiny click that gets people typing.
The tracker account "NHLFollowTrack" flagged it, listing the Blackhawks as the only new account Seguin followed.
Here's why people care. Seguin is 34 and entering the final year of the eight-year deal he signed with Dallas in 2018, which carries a $9.85 million cap hit and a full no-movement clause.
Any trade would need his blessing.
Where Seguin stands in Dallas
He's coming off a torn ACL suffered Dec. 2 against the Rangers, which ended his season after just 27 games and 17 points.
Surgery followed on Dec. 16, and he was part of the Stars' training camp roster this month.
Dallas also bowed out in the first round against Minnesota, so the team around him isn't exactly settled either.
Chicago is an Original Six franchise, and Seguin has history with that logo.
The Blackhawks beat his Bruins in the 2013 Stanley Cup Final, and he was shipped to Dallas that summer.
Funny how things circle back.
Is this really a signal?
Honestly, no one has reported a trade, an offer or even interest from either side.
A follow is a follow. Players follow teams, friends and old teammates for all kinds of reasons, and an aggregator account isn't an insider.
Seguin might simply be curious or just scrolling.
Still, it's a contract year for a veteran center, and that's exactly when every little move gets read into.
Blackhawks fans will be refreshing his profile, and Stars fans will be too.
