Mikko Rantenen ejected for another questionable hit days after being punished by the NHL
Just days after he was punished for embellishment and a questionable hit on Alexander Romanov, Mikko Rantanen was ejected again for a hit against the Flames.
It wasn't long ago that Dallas Stars forward Mikko Rantanen, who is skating in his first full year in a Stars sweater, was fined by the NHL for embellishment.
Now, he could be in more trouble after he was ejected for the second time in a week for a questionable hit on an opposing player, this time on Calgary Flames forward Matt Coronato during the second period of last night's game.
Rantanen was hit with a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct, and also had to fight Flames forward Jonathan Huberdeau, who immediately stepped in to the defense of his teammate.
Huberdeau was given an instigator penalty and a misconduct.
Coronato went down the tunnel toward the Flames locker room. Even though he wasn't on the bench to start the third period, he did eventually return to the ice for the Flames.
After the game, which the Flames won in a shootout, Calgary head coach Ryan Huska later called it a "terrible hit".
I thought it was a terrible hit. We've seen it. Didn't we just see that on TV? I didn't think it was a good hit at all.
Mikko Rantanen Was Ejected Earlier This Week For His Hit On Alexander Romanov
Not even a week ago, Rantanen delivered another hit that got him tossed out of a game against the New York Islanders when he leveled Alexander Romanov from behind.
But the NHL Department of Player Safety decided that he wouldn't face any supplemental discipline.
