Colorado Avalanche forward Martin Necas shut down any lingering thoughts of his old team, the Carolina Hurricanes, as he gets ready to play them for the 1st time.

It was one of the most surprising trades in recent NHL history that took place just over a year ago, as the Colorado Avalanche traded star Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes for Martin Necas and Jack Drury.
They felt they weren't able to negotiate a new contract for Rantanen, so they traded him to avoid losing him on the open market for nothing in return. But Carolina couldn't get him to commit long term either, and he was traded to the Dallas Stars and signed a long term extension.
Necas, who remains with the Avalanche for now despite rumours of him potentially being unhappy in Colorado, is getting ready to play the Hurricanes for the 1st time since the trade, but he shut down any lingering thoughts about his old team by saying that chapter in his career is over.
Played there for 6 or 7 years. Made a lot of great friends that I'm still in touch with... That chapter's over. - Martin Necas
He had 298 points (113G, 185A) in 411 games in a Hurricanes sweater.

Martin Necas Can Become a UFA This Summer

Necas is playing in the last year of his current contract with an AAV (average annual value) of $6.5 million.
He was taken with the 12th overall pick by the Hurricanes in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, and would play the 1st several years of his career with the team before the surprising trade to the Avalanche last January.
He's off to a good start this year with 11 points (5G, 6A) already in just 7 games.
