The 1st goal of the postseason for the Colorado Avalanche against the Dallas Stars by Artturi Lehkonen wasn't without controversy, and it could have an effect on the entire series.

For the 2nd straight year, the Dallas Stars and the Colorado Avalanche are meeting one another in the Stanley Cup Playoffs; this time, they are meeting in the opening round for the 1st time since 2006.
The opening game of the series is being played at American Airlines Center in downtown Dallas, and following a goalless 1st period, the Avalanche scored the opening goal - albeit in controversial fashion.
Colorado's Artturi Lehkonen fired a shot on goaltender Jake Oettinger, who spat out a considerable rebound. While Lehkonen was being tied up by Stars forward Mavrik Bourque, he toppled over to the ice but his skate made contact with the puck, lifting it into the net past Oettinger's shoulder.
Following video review, the officials determined that Lehkonen's actions did not constitute a distinct kicking motion; therefore, his goal was allowed to stand.
Whether or not it was the correct call remains the subject of debate by fans of both teams along with impartial observers. Understandably, more than a few Stars fans believe that that they got the short end of the stick with the ruling, while Avalanche fans naturally believe that the right call was made.
No matter what the fans think, the call was made and it stood. If the Stars ultimately lose Game 1 against the Avalanche, much will be made about the controversial goal from Lehkonen.
UPDATE
This goal ultimately led to a blowout win for the Avalanche, taking the game 5-1. Despite the score, however; the Stars played a strong game.
Pete DeBoer, the Stars' head coach, went as far to say that it was among the better games the team had played recently.
We will see if this game 1 loss influences the fate of the series, if it does, it would be very difficult for Stars fans.
