Cale Makar's record-breaking annual salary with the Avalanche has been confirmed

Elliotte Friedman just confirmed moments ago that the Colorado Avalanche have officially signed Cale Makar to a long-term deal. The AAV on this contract is a truly whopping $20.4 million per season.

As it turns out, the Avalanche have successfully kept Makar with the team for another eight seasons. This means the entirety of the contract is worth $163.2 million.

This is the largest contract in the entire history of the National Hockey League. No player has ever earned a salary above $20 million per season. However, Makar is a special player.

It's also going to be one of the last deals of its kind as the current CBA expires in a couple of weeks. Soon, teams will no longer be able to sign players for eight seasons.
