The Hurricanes have placed goaltender Cayden Primeau on waivers, PuckPedia reports, and Iorio and Sheary both cleared waivers yesterday.
Cayden Primeau is on the waiver wire today.
The Carolina Hurricanes goaltender was placed on waivers just days after the club kept him on its opening night roster as a third goalie.
PuckPedia shared the news Wednesday and added that Iorio and Sheary both cleared waivers the day before.
If nobody claims Primeau, the Chicago Wolves would be the logical landing spot after he spent last season there.
Where Primeau has played
Primeau's NHL stops have been Montreal and Toronto, and he has yet to play an NHL game for Carolina.
Montreal drafted him in the seventh round in 2017, 199th overall.
Across 58 NHL games, he owns a 15-25-7 record, a 3.73 goals against average and a .882 save percentage.
The Canadiens sent him to Carolina in June 2025 for a 2026 seventh-round pick.
Why Carolina is set in net
Brandon Bussi and Pyotr Kochetkov are the Hurricanes' goaltending duo now that Frederik Andersen left for the Edmonton Oilers in free agency.
Bussi was a waiver claim himself last October, and he ended up winning the Stanley Cup with Carolina.
Primeau still has real value as depth.
He put up a 2.41 goals against average and a .916 save percentage in 39 AHL games with Chicago last season, then helped the Wolves reach the Calder Cup Final.
His cap hit sits at $912,500, according to PuckPedia.
A goalie with NHL experience and strong AHL numbers on a cheap deal is the type of player a team short on depth could look at.
Claims usually come in by 2 PM Eastern the following day, so the answer should arrive Thursday.
If he does go unclaimed, Carolina gets to keep a veteran goalie in its system without tying up a spot on the NHL roster.
