While the other four were relatively easy to move, Hanifin is proving to be the exact opposite, with Insider Frank Seravalli revealing that he is almost holding the Flames hostage as they attempt to find a trade partner.
DFO Rundown on Hanifin: Frank says the return will be higher than Tanev's but he doesn't know by how much. Says Hanifin's camp is "holding the Flames hostage" because of the talk about where he wants to sign long term.
Names Tampa & Florida as teams Hanifin wants to sign with and speculates Boston, LA and Vegas as other teams he may want to sign with. Stresses those last 3 teams are not confirmed. Says those teams have very few assets to trade.
Where will Hanifin land at the deadline?
According to that report, Hanifin is looking to sign a long-term deal with whichever teams he lands on, and with such a small list in mind, it's effecting how the Flames can negotiate.
It's true that Calgary won't take scraps for the 27-year old defenseman in a trade, but teams may not be willing to give up much if he's not willing to sign an extension, and with seven days to go until the deadline, this story is only going to get more interesting.
