According to the letter of the law, Brad Marchand is facing an automatic 10-game suspension for his actions last night toward an official.
On his way to the bench last night, the linesman was on Brad Marchand's way which sparked the Bruins captain to shove him out of the way.
In the NHL's section on automatic suspensions, Brad Marchand is facing an automatic 10-game suspension for his actions towards this referee.
40.3 - Automatic Suspension - Category II - Any player who deliberately applies physical force to an official in any manner, which physical force is applied without intent to injure, or who spits on an official, shall be automatically suspended for not less than ten (10) games.
We still await an announcement on whether or not Marchand will receive a suspension for his actions but according to the letter of the law, Marchand should be.
