The Boston Bruins are reportedly set to target a point-per-game star forward on the trade market ahead of free agency.

Teams that don't want to see players walk away in free agency will be able to trade them before July 1st, avoiding the risk of losing them for nothing. While it may seem pointless to give up assets for signing rights when teams can sign players for free just weeks later, organizations hope to avoid a bidding war for top-tier players by securing them before they hit the open market as unrestricted free agents.
Colorado Avalanche forward Martin Necas has another year left on his contract, but after the Rantanen trade fiasco, the organization is likely to pull out all the stops to sign him as soon as possible.
He will be eligible to sign a new contract on July 1st, and if the organization feels a deal won't happen, Necas could be up for grabs sooner rather than later. If that happens, the Boston Bruins would surely show interest.

Bruins Eyeing Martin Necas On Trade Market Before July 1st

Multiple reports stated that the former Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Necas could be looking to leave his new team:
"There was a sense Necas wasn't overly thrilled with his experience in Colorado and that he wants to explore other options." - Nick Kypreos

David Pastrnak's teammate on Czechia's national team would be a great fit in Boston, which desperately needs to make significant acquisitions over the summer to avoid wasting another season of their core.
Acquiring Necas won't be cheap, especially with another season left on his cap-friendly $6.5M AAV contract.
Necas, 26, scored 83 points in 79 games this season with the Carolina Hurricanes and Colorado Avalanche.
He will be in a position to ask for a massive raise, and the Bruins will be in a position to give it to him, whereas the Avs won't be.
