Tonight the Boston Bruins are getting ready for round 2 against the Columbus Blue Jackets and reports have confirmed they are making a major lineup change.
The Boston Bruins were embarrassed on Friday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets losing 6-2 and being utterly dominated.
The poor performance from the Bruins has led interim head coach Joe Sacco to make a drastic move calling up top prospect
Fabian Lysell and immediately inserting him into the lineup.
Lysell's opportunity comes after management took notice of his play with the Providence Bruins.
He's gonna make his debut tonight, he'll be in the lineup, confirmed Bruins head coach Joe Sacco. He's played well in Providence, talking to the coaching staff down there and management, they feel he deserves an opportunity.
Not only will Lysell be called up and get minutes at 5-on-5 but Sacco also confirmed that there is a possibility the Bruins lean on Lysell to boost their struggling power play as well.
This will be Lysell's first opportunity to play in the NHL and could signal a major change for the Bruins' organizational philosophy going forward.
Could the Boston Bruins be hinting at a rebuild with their latest roster move?
The move to call up Lysell is shocking because in the past the Bruins have been incredibly hesitant to call up young players and put them in the lineup right away let alone on the power play.
Lysell this season has been solid with AHL Providence tallying 17 points in 26 games but not nearly good enough to force his way on to the Bruins power play in most seasons.
This move makes it seem like the Bruins are desperate for a spark of offense to get their team going and if not are willing to just lean into the development of a young player.
Lysell was drafted in the first round of the 2021 NHL Draft and still figures to be a big part of the Bruins' future.
His success or failure in this major opportunity could determine what the Boston Bruins's next steps are when it comes to their rebuild or continued contending moves.
