The Boston Bruins took a huge fall in 2024/25, but ahead of a new season, CEO Charlie Jacobs has predicted that fans will be 'pleasantly surprised'.
After some incredible regular season runs in recent years, the Boston Bruins took a fall in 2024/25, and after trading some key pieces of their franchise, the future wasn't looking too bright for the organization.
This off-season has been a busy one however, and while most don't believe that this is a team that can compete for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, there is optimism within the city that they can surprise some people.
CEO Charlie Jacobs makes major predictions about next season
In a recent interview,
Bruins CEO Charlie Jacob was asked about what's next for the Bruins, and despite many on the outside being down on this team, he expressed plenty of hope after a busy summer.
"Yeah - we certainly did do a lot, certainly since last year's trade deadline in terms of player personnel on the ice and head coaching. So, yeah - I think there's a lot of new faces. There's a lot of new energy. And frankly, we needed to change the energy from last year. We owed our fan base a lot more than what we showed last year, and it was time for us to roll up our sleeves and get to work on a remake, frankly. And I think that you'll see that in October."
The confidence from Jacobs likely comes from the hiring of new coach Marco Sturm, and when his name came up, Jacobs couldn't have been more complimentary, stating that many will be pleasantly surprised this season as a result of the hiring.
"So Marco is incredible. He's quite a communicator, and he's a passionate communicator. And he has the experience of playing under a lot of very system oriented coaches while he was a player. And he will tell you about his journey to why he's here today as a National Hockey League head coach. He knew, or at least he had a pretty good idea of what it was going to take for him to skill-up enough to be able to step on that bench and lead a team on that National Hockey League level. And it's quite a journey, and it's quite a story. And I think he's going to be - I think all of us will be pleasantly surprised by what we see on the ice."
Unfortunately, the talent on the ice isn't quite the playoff level we've seen in recent years, but with some intriguing pieces for the future, if this team can play competitive hockey for most of the year, it will be a pleasant surprise for most fans.
