Team Canada makes multiple lineup changes minutes before semifinals
Canada is missing their captain for their semifinal matchup with Finland, and now they've confirmed several other lineup changes as they chase gold.
Team Canada came to the 2026 Olympic Games with just one goal in mind, and that was coming away with a gold medal in the first best-on-best Olympics since 2014, and they brought the star studded team to do it.
While they avoided disaster in the quarterfinals against Czechia, this is a team that's still very optimistic heading into their semifinal matchup against Finland on Friday, but now, it's been confirmed they'll have to do so without Sidney Crosby.
Canada tweak their lineup against Finland
Obviously, that was going to lead to at least one change in their lineup, but instead Head Coach Jon Cooper opted to make several, putting Nick Suzuki on the third line in Crosby's place in between Mitch Marner and Mark Stone.
That's led to some big changes on the second line, with Seth Jarvis and Bo Horvat both alongside Nathan MacKinnon, with the team hoping this will spark No. 29 to have a big game in the semi's, while also bringing back Sam Bennett to centre the fourth line alongside Brad Marchand and Brandon Hagel.
Beyond that, the team have now been forced to name a new captain, and unsurprisingly, they chose Connor McDavid, who has dominated this tournament and captain the Edmonton Oilers since he was 18-years of age.
Ultimately, it's not going to be easy against a very good Finnish squad, but with the talent that Canada have, if they can find their groove early, it's still their game to lose.
