Auston Matthews' latest comments on Sidney Crosby sparks rumour
Sidney Crosby may or may not play in the Gold Medal Game, but according to the USA captain Auston Matthews, he is expected to be on the ice.
The semifinal round of the 2026 Olympic Games is now in the rearview mirror, and unsurprisingly, like the women's bracket, this tournament is set to come down to the United States and Canada, with the Gold Medal Game set for early Sunday morning.
This matchup is set to have plenty of emotion and intensity, but heading into the game for Canada, the team are sweating on the availability of both Josh Morrissey and captain Sidney Crosby.
Unfortunately, on Saturday, Head Coach Jon Cooper confirmed that the talented blue liner will not be available, but as for Crosby, he skated on Saturday and is expected to be a game-time decision.
Team USA expect Sidney Crosby to play
Even at less than 100%, Crosby's leadership and experience in big games like this make them a better team, and while Connor McDavid is a great captain, Team Canada will certainly want 87 out there with the 'C' on his chest.
As for Team USA, they seemingly expect Crosby to play, with captain Auston Matthews commenting on the situation ahead of arguably the most anticipated game in hockey history.
He’s a competitor so we all kind of expect to see him playing tomorrow & I’m sure that will give them a big boost. - Matthews on Crosby
Both teams are absolutely loaded top to bottom with elite level NHL talent, and with so much on the line, this will be an incredible game, and for Canada, they'll be much more confident if their long-time leader is on the ice, but for now, only time will tell.
