The league made the announcement today, revealing the suspension for the Knights forward for an offense that occurred on the 6th of November. Since then, Landon has already been sitting out and has actually served two of the five games already. In the announcement, the OHL revealed that Sim would be first eligible to return on November 22nd when the team takes on the Owen Sound Attack.
The OHL could not be specific about what Landon said that violated the league's code of conduct. However, they did reveal that the chirp was based on 'religious and cultural grounds.'
The last time Sim was suspended, it stirred up quite the controversy as many hockey fans spoke about it, saying the OHL went too far punishing a player for a simple and incredibly common chirp in the entire sporting world, not just hockey. Keep in mind though, that this is a developmental league where most of the players are minors.
Sim has five goals and 8 points through ten games this season. Last year, he put up 29 points including 10 goals in 39 contests and another 8 in 13 playoff games. He has not been trending in the right direction though just based on his production alone and his propensity for getting suspended will not make his path to the NHL any clearer. Hopefully, he will use the remainder of this season to clean up his game and start making big improvements on the ice. If not, his chances of making the show will continue to dwindle.
