Despite having two of the best players in the world, the Edmonton Oilers have yet to go on a deep playoff run, and as we've seen before, those struggles in a Canadian market lead to plenty of criticism.

While Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl largely escape criticism, that is left to other players on the team, with Darnell Nurse facing the brunt of it, especially with his contract.

After a solid start to his career in Edmonton, Nurse signed a whopping 8-year, $74 million deal that comes with a cap hit of $9.25 million annually, paying him among not only the elite defenceman in the NHL, but the most elite players.

Does he deserve the criticism?

Since signing that deal, Nurse has tallied 35 points in 71 games and 43 points in a full 82 game season, but continues to cop plenty of criticism, and now he's fired back.

On the recent Mitts Off podcast, Nurse lashed out at Oilers fans claiming that he's blamed for everything from a goal against to the traffic on Stony Plain, and while it's easy to say he's been overpaid for his production, there's no doubting that the criticism can sometimes go way too far.
