The Minnesota Wild set an NHL record today, signing superstar Kirill Kaprizov to a blockbuster $136 million contract. Brett Leason, on the other hand, wasn't as fortunate.
Hours following the signing, however, the Minnesota Wild made a smaller roster move, letting 6'5" power forward Brett Leason go from his professional tryout contract.
Leason, who was drafted 56th overall by the Washington Capitals in 2019, has bounced around the league; spending the last three seasons with the Minnesota Wild.
Brett Leason Loses PTO in Minnesota, Future in the NHL Unknown
With his physicality and range, it's likely his time in the NHL isn't over -- which team he lands up with, however, is unknown.
Reports from Europe suggest that may be his next step,
entering the market alongside experienced NHL Kevin Labanc, former Colorado Avalanche top-10 pick
Tyson Jost, and
Ryan Suzuki - brother of Montreal Canadiens star Nick.
Europe will be an interesting fit for Leason, who has played in North America his whole life; hopefully he will get the opportunity to highlight his skills, and get back to the NHL.
With over 20 players having hit the waiver wire every day for the last three days, there will certainly be movement around the league; the regular season is finally almost here.
