Hockey fans have spent all offseason wondering if Quinn Hughes could eventually be dealt to New Jersey to reunite with his brothers.

A new hypothetical trade proposal flips that script entirely, imagining a deal that sends Jack Hughes to Minnesota instead.
It's a proposal that was first floated by Jesse C of The Hockey Writers, who is garnering quite a bit of flak online for the mere suggestion of this deal.

What the Wild Would Get

Under this hypothetical framework, Minnesota would acquire Jack Hughes, the dynamic center who put up 27 goals and 50 assists for 77 points in 61 games last season.
He also starred for Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics, scoring the overtime winner against Canada.
Adding him would reunite Jack with brother Quinn, who joined the Wild in a blockbuster trade from Vancouver, giving Minnesota two Hughes brothers on the same roster and instantly upgrading their forward group for a Stanley Cup push.

What the Devils Would Get

New Jersey's return would reportedly include forwards Yakov Trenin, Danila Yurov and Charlie Stramel, along with first-round picks in 2028 and 2029.
That haul would let the Devils begin retooling their forward core around a young, cost-controlled foundation while still keeping Luke Hughes in New Jersey.
What makes this proposal unusual is the direction of the swap. Most speculation has centered on Quinn eventually signing with New Jersey to play alongside his brothers. This idea reverses that logic entirely, with Jack heading to Minnesota instead.
Jack also holds a 10-team no-trade clause, meaning he would need to approve any move before it could happen, adding another layer of difficulty to an already unlikely scenario.
