Two NHL goaltenders are now available to all 31 other teams. The Chicago Blackhawks have placed Arvid Soderblom on waivers, and the Washington Capitals have done the same with Remi Poirier, giving goalie-needy clubs a pair of options on the wire today.

Soderblom Struggles Behind Spencer Knight

Soderblom, 27, has had a difficult start to the season in the backup role. He is winless through five appearances, sitting at 0-3-1 with a 4.67 goals-against average and an .842 save percentage.
His latest outing came Saturday, when he relieved Spencer Knight and allowed three goals on 16 shots in a 9-2 loss to the Hurricanes.
Chicago signed him to a two-year, $5.5 million extension in July 2025, carrying a $2.75 million cap hit through this season, with unrestricted free agency arriving in 2027.
He went undrafted before signing with Chicago in 2021 and has spent his entire NHL career with the club. Drew Commesso had been viewed as the goalie waiting in the wings for that backup job.

Poirier Returns to the Waiver Wire

Poirier, 25, was claimed off waivers by the New Jersey Devils from the Dallas Stars on Sept. 27, then dealt to Washington on Nov. 1 for a 2027 seventh-round pick after the Devils landed Connor Hellebuyck.
He has never played an NHL game, but he owns a 70-51-14 record, a 2.76 goals-against average, a .908 save percentage, and six shutouts across 137 AHL appearances.
Washington already has Logan Thompson as its starter and Charlie Lindgren as his backup, so Poirier was brought in as organizational depth after the Capitals lost Clay Stevenson to Winnipeg on waivers before the season.
Because he has to clear waivers to report to AHL Hershey, the Dallas Stars could also take another look at the goalie they once drafted.
Clubs can submit claims until the waiver window closes, and a team dealing with a goalie injury could change the path for either netminder. If both clear, they would be eligible to report to their AHL affiliates in Rockford and Hershey.
