Massive trade is in the works between two Canadian teams
According to recent reports from NHL Trade Rumours, the Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets are rumoured to be working on a massive trade that would shake up both organizations.
McGroarty has asked the Jets' organization for a trade because he doesn't see a direct path to the NHL. The Flames, who are going through a rebuild, could have a direct path to the NHL for the former NCAA star.
For the Jets, acquiring a player of Andersson's calibre could be a game-changer. As a right-shot defenseman, Andersson brings the kind of stability and two-way play that could complement Winnipeg's defensive core. Pairing him with
Josh Morrissey or
Dylan Samberg would give the Jets a formidable top-four that could anchor the team's blue line for years to come.
It would be worth it for the Jets to look at this avenue because it would finally give Morrissey a reliable defence partner. This could give them a good top-four on the back end and potentially get them over the hump in the playoffs.
If they part ways with McGroarty, the Jets would want to get someone who would have an instant impact on their roster. Andersson would spark the team's blue line and help them find the results that they want on an organizational scale.
As for the Flames, this could be a no-brainer. Yes, they have to part ways with the future captain of the team, Andersson. But they would be getting a top NHL prospect in McGroarty who could be a part of their core for the next decade.
