Hockey player arrested after fracturing referees skull
Today reports are coming out that a 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection to an attack of an official during a summer ball hockey league game.
This evening sources are confirming that a hockey league in Quebec called The North American Ball Hockey Players Association (NBHPA) has suffered a great tragedy. During a recent game, a 31-year-old player in the league went after a referee leaving significant injuries to the referee's face. The report from The Global News first shows pictures of the horrible aftermath.
In the days after this brutal attack by the player the NBHPA has put out a statement condemning the action. They are calling on all of those in the hockey community to practice sportsmanship and respect when playing going forward.
All our thoughts go to this referee in our community who will experience very difficult times in the coming days,» the association said.
In the wake of the attack, both police and the association called on athletes to play sports with «courtesy and respect towards all participants.»
According to initial reports, the referee who was attacked will now need extensive facial reconstruction surgery as a result of the attack which fractured his jaw, and skull, and damaged all of his teeth. As for the player who attacked him he was taken into custody interviewed and released with a promise to reappear in court.
«The man was questioned and released on a promise to appear in court on charges of harm with a weapon and causing bodily harm,» police said in a statement.
