Frontrunner to Sign Three-Time Cup Champion Jonathan Toews Emerges

Former Blackhawks legend Jonathan Toews wants to return to the NHL, and if he does so, a frontrunner has emerged to sign him, and it is not Chicago.
Yes, a reunion with
Patrick Kane in Chicago would be a fairy tale moment, mentoring
Connor Bedard and the future generation, but the reality is that both stars are headed in different directions.
Kane and Toews will unfortunately not reunite in Chicago for one final go
Kane will remain in Detroit, and
Toews, not much upside offensively left, won't be accompanying him. However, there is worth in Toews.
A three-time Stanley Cup champion and former Selke award winner, he brings experience, leadership, and defensive depth, elements that could benefit a contender with depth at center.
The Dallas Stars come to mind. If they fall short once again, adding Toews could provide the steady, veteran presence they're missing.
He may not light up the scoreboard, but his defensive responsibility and leadership in 13-15 minutes a night could be exactly what Dallas needs, especially in the postseason.
Jake Oettinger and the Stars' young core would benefit from that kind of stability. Dallas has gotten close recently, with a 2020 Finals appearance and 2023 and 2024 deep playoff series, but hasn't yet broken through.
Toews is not a messiah, but he could be the missing ingredient that finally puts them over the hump.
Perhaps Winnipeg becomes the more rational choice, as he would head back to his hometown, but if Toews wants one final impactful ride, Dallas could be the perfect place.
