Tonight, a new report from NHL insider David Pagnotta has confirmed that two contending teams are expected to show interest in upcoming free agent Patrik Laine.
July 1st is just around the corner and that means that NHL free agency is almost here which has caused rumors and reports to sky rocket.
Heading into free agency, talented sniper Patrik Laine is set to hit the market after another injury plagued season that ended in frustration for the former 2nd overall pick.
Despite his lack of durability in recent seasons, Laine reportedly still has a robust market interested in him including the Los Angeles Kings and Tampa Bay Lightning.
Patrik Laine linked to two contending teams as potential free agency landing spots
According to a a href='https://www.thefourthperiod.com/pagnotta/makar-contract-talks-will-carry-out-over-summer' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>report from Pagnotta in his recent free agency round up, Laine is expected to be courted by multiple teams headlined by the Los Angeles Kings and Tampa Bay Lightning.
Patrik Laine should drum up a solid amount of interest on Wednesday. Los Angeles is one team to look out for, and I believe the Tampa Bay Lightning are another.
Laine, 28, is one of the premier goal scorers in the NHL when healthy but has struggled to stay on the ice in recent seasons having not played over 60 games since the 2020 season.
Whoever takes the gamble on Laine will have to put a plan in place to manage his health and the wear and tear of a long season.
If his new team can manage the health problems that seem to follow him, they will likely get an incredible talent for cheap due to Laine's lack of reliability.
With this year's free agent class being so shallow, Laine will likely be one of the first names off of the board.
As free agency kicks off, it will be interesting to see what kind of contract Laine can land despite all of the injury setbacks.
