Former Bruins forward signs major contract in Swedish Hockey League
Boston Bruins forward Oskar Steen has elected to go back to Sweden as he signed a five-year deal with Färjestad BK of the Swedish Hockey League today.
This move will not come as a surprise to many. Steen was always going to have a hard time carving out a regular role for himself in the NHL as a 5'10" forward who was not particularly skilled. He did set a career high in games played this season with 34, but he averaged just 9 minutes of ice time per game, and recorded just a single goal.
Former #NHLBruins forward Oskar Steen is heading back to Farjestad in Sweden where he developed as a player. Last played for them in 2018-19. Steen signed a five-year deal #GetBent
Hos talents will be put to much better use in the less physical SHL where there is more open space for him to create offense. Steen's history with Färjestad goes back all the way to the 2012-13 season season as they were his local youth team. He spent parts of seven seasons developing with the team before coming to North America. Most recently, he played in the 2018-19 season where he put up 17 goals and 37 points in 46 games with the club. He will provide a big boost to the team that was already in a good position to win a championship.
Another strong move for @farjestad_bk this off-season.
Adding more speed, skill and two-way play in Oskar Steen back to the club he grew up in. Following the addition of Marian Studenic who brings a lot of the same qualities is a real boost!
