Evander Kane is still sitting on the open market as an unrestricted free agent with training camps right around the corner.
A fresh wave of off-ice noise might have officially slammed the door on his NHL career.
The 35-year-old power forward suited up for the Vancouver Canucks last year following a trade from Edmonton, putting up 13 goals across 71 games.
There was a time when NHL front offices were more than willing to look past off-ice headaches to get his rare blend of size, physicality, and goal-scoring ability into their lineup.
But with his offensive production dipping, his market value has completely tanked in the wake of recent public drama.
Former teammate Kurtis Gabriel recently ripped into Kane on a podcast, calling out his lack of professionalism back when they shared a locker room in San Jose.
Gabriel alleged that Kane routinely showed up late to team meetings and blew past established team standards.
Instead of taking the high road, Kane clapped back on social media with a cryptic post, teasing that he's preparing to drop "facts and receipts" to set the record straight.
A Recurring Pattern Across Five Franchises
Over the course of a 17-year NHL career, Kane has bounced through five different organizations.
Whether in Winnipeg, Buffalo, San Jose, Edmonton, or Vancouver, his path has almost always played out the exact same way: early on-ice success eventually sours into internal friction.
General managers will stomach personality clashes and off-ice noise as long as a player is delivering top-six scoring numbers.
Now that Kane's output has regressed to bottom-six production, front offices simply have no appetite to absorb the baggage that comes with him.
The End of the Road for the Power Forward
When building out a roster ahead of camp, NHL executives prioritize locker room culture above almost everything else.
Watching Kane trade jabs with former teammates and media members online on the eve of camp is a massive red flag for anyone who might have been considering signing him.
At 35, the risk drastically outweighs whatever reward he brings to the ice.
Barring an absolute emergency where a contender gets hit with a catastrophic wave of injuries, Kane may have finally burned his last bridge in North America.
