Charlie McAvoy set to face potential major discipline after unnecessary slash to Zach Benson
Tonight, at the end of the Buffalo Sabres win over the Boston Bruins, Charlie McAvoy sparked controversy with a dangerous and unnecessary slash to Zach Benson.
The Buffalo Sabres and Boston Bruins resumed their heated series in Game 6 tonight with the Bruins looking to keep their season alive.
Despite keeping things close early, the Sabres eventually pulled away with a big goal by Zach Benson to put the Sabres up by 2.
Shortly after the goal, Benson was back out on the ice and collided hard with Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy seemingly slewfooting McAvoy.
After the duo hit the boards McAvoy came after Benson slashing him up high near the neck.
McAvoy was immediately given a 5 minute major and ejected from the game.
With the ejection, analysts and fans are now speculating that further discipline could be coming to McAvoy.

In the aftermath of the game, some have begun to speculate that McAvoy could be suspended to begin next season as a result of his actions.
McAvoy just swung his stick at Benson. Now, he got tripped by Benson but that could easily be a suspension at the start of next season right there.
At a minimum the Bruins veteran defenseman is looking at a major fine from the NHL Department of Player Safety.
All eyes will be on the NHL now as George Parros will have to determine whether a fine or a suspension is the most fitting punishment for McAvoy.
