Frank Seravalli says Bill Daly confirmed a serious New Orleans NHL bid, with Governor Jeff Landry already part of the push.

That's the real number to watch: expansion groups were told the fee is $2 billion, and the league still has not opened a formal process.
So this isn't about jerseys or logos yet. It's about whether New Orleans can move from "interesting meeting" to ownership, arena control, and long-term league revenue.
Seravalli's report matters because it adds another layer to what Kevin Weekes had already put on the table: Bill Daly was part of a New York meeting with a group chasing this market.
Then the story got heavier. Landry publicly said he and Steve Scalise had an "extremely productive" call with the NHL about the prospect of a team in New Orleans.
That's when this stopped sounding like random deadline-week noise. Governors don't get pulled into these files unless someone believes the pitch has real legs.

Why this is more than expansion chatter

New Orleans is trying to break into a line that already included Atlanta, Houston, Indianapolis, and New Orleans in the league's June 2025 Board of Governors update, with Austin later jumping into the conversation.
That means the city's edge can't be novelty. It has to be arena certainty, corporate money, and a clean ownership structure that doesn't drag the league into a long wait.
The post that sparked this round is here and it lands because it matches the reporting trail already on the record.
NHL expansion: "The conversation I was having with Deputy Commissioner Daly...he goes yeah, I talked to the Governor of Louisiana; he's like no seriously, there's a group in New Orleans that's really interested in...the NHL."

- Frank Seravalli
My read is simple: New Orleans is not a frontrunner yet, but it is no longer a side plot. Daly's involvement moved it onto the serious board.
And that's the pressure point now. If this group can show the league a clean building plan and big-money backing, New Orleans becomes a file the NHL has to keep open.
